Media Guidelines

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare recognizes the value of working closely with all media to keep the public informed about what's happening at our facilities.  At the same time we also have an obligation to protect the privacy rights of our patients, staff, physicians and volunteers.  To assist us in that process, we ask that the media abide by the following guidelines:

  • All news media representatives (whether on the telephone or in person) must identify themselves and the organization they represent.
Media working under specific deadlines should advise Administration so that information and/or requests may be provided in a timely fashion.
  • Media are asked not to interview employees, medical staff, patients and families, or enter patient care areas, including waiting rooms, unless authorized by Administration.
  • Signed patient consent must be obtained by staff prior to interviews and use of photography, and medical and hospital staff must be asked for their permission before any media-related activity.  Consent forms can be obtained through the Administration department.
  • As a courtesy, we request the news media inform Administration if pursuing a story on Hospital premises, and consent to be escorted by Administration staff.
  • Any onsite photography or videotaping must be approved, and all camera persons must be accompanied by a member of Administration.
  • After-hours media access is not permitted unless arranged in advance.
  • On occasions when the media wishes to interview members of the Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare Board of Directors, the Board Chair shall act as the Board of Directors' media contact.  Please contact Administration to arrange an interview.
