MAHC Preparing for the 2026-2027 Respiratory Illness Season
(Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Muskoka, ON) – Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is preparing for the annual respiratory illness season and reminding residents of the important role everyone plays in helping protect patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and visitors.
Respiratory illness season typically brings an increase in influenza, COVID-19, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and other respiratory viruses, which can place additional pressure on hospitals and the healthcare system. MAHC has implemented seasonal preparedness measures to support safe, high-quality care throughout the fall and winter months.
“Our teams carefully plan each year for respiratory illness season to ensure we are ready to meet increased demand while continuing to provide safe, compassionate care,” said Cheryl Harrison, President and CEO. “We also encourage our communities to take steps to protect themselves and others through vaccination, staying home when sick and practicing good hand hygiene.”
MAHC will continue to monitor respiratory illness activity locally and across the region and may adjust measures such as masking requirements, visitor guidance and outbreak protocols as needed to protect vulnerable patients.
Community members can help reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses by:
- Staying home when feeling unwell
- Keeping vaccinations up to date
- Practicing frequent hand hygiene
- Covering coughs and sneezes
- Following hospital infection prevention and control requirements when visiting
MAHC appreciates the ongoing support and cooperation of patients, families, staff, physicians, volunteers and community partners as we work together to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
