Safety is our priority at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC). Our comprehensive Emergency Response Plan helps ensure we are prepared to prevent, mitigate, and respond effectively to emergencies. By maintaining a coordinated approach to emergency preparedness, we strive to protect our patients, visitors, volunteers, physicians, and staff while ensuring the continuity of care.

Emergency Codes

MAHC uses a standardized emergency colour code system to ensure emergencies are communicated quickly and appropriate action is taken without delay.

This emergency notification system is standardized across Ontario hospitals, helping healthcare teams respond consistently and effectively during critical situations. While the colour codes are the same across the province, specific response procedures may vary by organization.

All MAHC staff, physicians, and volunteers receive training on emergency colour codes and their roles and responsibilities during an emergency.

To communicate an emergency, MAHC uses an overhead paging system to announce the emergency code and location. During your visit, you may hear an emergency code announced overhead. If this occurs, please remain calm and follow any instructions provided by staff. These announcements help ensure a timely and coordinated response while maintaining the safety of everyone within our facilities.

Code Amber- Missing Child

Code Black- Suspicious Package or Bomb Threat

Code Brown- Hazardous or Internal Spill

Code Blue- Cardiac Arrest

Code Green- Evacuation

Code Grey- Infrastructure Loss

Code Obstetrics- Obstetrics Emergency

Code Orange- Mass Causality Incident

Code Pink- Neonatal Emergency

Code Purple- Hostage Situation

Code Red- Fire

Code Silver- Person with a Weapon

Code White- Violent Person
