Protecting Your Information
While you are receiving care within our organization, hospital staff, physicians and other authorized individuals will collect information about you directly from you or from the person acting on your behalf. Thank you for entrusting your information to us.
We collect, use and share this information in a manner that is consistent with a variety of legislations within Ontario, including the Public Hospitals Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Quality of Care Information Protection Act (QCIPA).
Hospital staff, physicians and volunteers must comply with these laws to ensure the regulations and requirements are implemented and followed:
Health Information Protection Act
- Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) protects the privacy of personal health information with provisions for access, use and disclosure.
- Quality of Care Information Protection Act (QCIPA) protects information collected for the purposes of improving care.
- Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)
As of January 1, 2012, FIPPA protects privacy and personal information (generally) in Hospitals with provision of access, use and disclosure. The table below explains the differences between FIPPA and PHIPA.
