At Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare, we know the importance of planning for the future. The health care needs of our population are always changing, and so are the ways that we take care of them. We are preparing for changing demographics in our communities, new demands on the health care system, and technological advancements that influence the way care is delivered.
At MAHC, this planning is for the health care needs for Muskoka and East Parry Sound in the year 2030 and beyond. We know that the status quo is not an option for a sustainable future. Aside from meeting the Ministry of Health's capital planning requirements, MAHC's priority is to ensure that we will continue to deliver the very best in health care to the communities we serve. This work ensures that investments in our services and our aging buildings, and most importantly in the people we serve, are thoughtful, appropriate and effectively meet demands for the long term.
Completing this necessary planning work has been an objective of MAHC's Strategic Plan since 2012 and continues to be a focus in our current Strategic Plan. It is not uncommon for visionary planning of this magnitude to take 15 to 20 years to complete, which is why we need to be thinking today about what the future might look like many years down the road. We know that our buildings, due to their age, are not consistent with current standards and require significant investment to update. An independent Facility Condition Assessment report demonstrates the poor condition of our existing sites, based on a 2017 review. In addition our two sites regularly exceed our bedded capacity and are challenged for space.
Throughout the Ministry's planning stages, MAHC is committed to reviewing and revising the plan using the most current information available. Once government approval and funding is received, construction would begin. Read more about MAHC's journey to date.
