Healthcare Clerical Staff

In June, MAHC celebrates Healthcare Clerical Support Month and recognizes staff members in clerical roles that work as Clerks to support a variety of departments and patient care areas.  Allow us to introduce a few of these team members to you.

Introducing Karen LoatesKaren Loates is one of our front line team members in Diagnostic Imaging.  Working as a Diagnostic Imaging Clerk, Karen arranges the patient's booking, explains the test, any preparation that must be made in advance and screens the patient for health concerns, such as diabetes.  Karen's love for people brought her to the hospital where she has made the rounds since joining the team in 2002.  She started at Switchboard, worked as a Ward Clerk and also in the Purchasing Dept. before settling into her current position.  Karen is also part of the MAHC Team Building Committee and keeps herself active playing baseball, hockey and coaching her daughters in youth soccer and ringette.

Introducing Nichole EwingNichole Ewing always pictured herself working in a hospital from her first encounter in England where as an Early Childhood Educator she taught mothers how to care for their newborn babies at St. Thomas' Hospital in London.  Nichole originally came to Canada as a nanny and spent 25 years in the insurance industry before she got her wish and started work at MAHC nine years ago.  Working in Patient Registration/Switchboard, Nichole takes the time to make sure each patient's experience is the best it can be.  Patient Registration staff also answer the phones at Switchboard and scan the patient chart into the hospital system.  Every day is different and brings a new challenge.  When she isn't working, Nichole enjoys baking, knitting and caring for her family.

Introducing Anna CollinsWhen Anna Collins started working at the hospital in 1988, she used a typewriter.  Her career at MAHC began at Switchboard, where part of her work in Huntsville was to dispatch ambulance and fire. Today, Anna is a Day Surgery Liaison who coordinates Surgical Services activity using the electronic health record system, and ensures all procedures are scheduled and completed in a timely and efficient manner. She is in constant contact with the surgical staff, surgeons and other departments to keep the team moving along.  Anna loves working with her team and gives back to all of her MAHC colleagues by helping to organize the annual Christmas party.

Introducing Sandra LachanceSandra Lachance was a Personal Support Worker in the community before she started at MAHC as
a Ward Clerk in 2008, providing clerical support to the inpatient ward as well as the Emergency Department.  Sandra's current role is Surgical Suite Liaison where she is responsible for booking surgical procedures, organizing patient charts and tracking down information that nurses and surgeons need to keep patients moving through the Operating Room to recovery.  She works closely with staff in the local surgeon offices to coordinate the patient's procedure and their pre-op preparation.  Sandra is known for keeping things light and fun at work. She loves time spent outside, except for when she's shopping!

Introducing Yvonne WatersYvonne Waters always envisioned working in the hospital one day.  She gave up years of experience in retail management to pursue a Medical Administration certificate so she could be a Ward Clerk.  In her five years at MAHC, she has worked in many patient care areas across both sites, using her understanding of medical terminology, pharmacology terms and transcription.  Yvonne has
a knack for being well organized and keeping her finger on the daily pulse of the unit.  Her colleagues appreciate that she is always one step ahead with the information they need to provide excellent patient care.  When she's not at work, she enjoys playing baseball and volleyball.

Introducing Kelly WhiteKelly White is just one of the friendly voices on the front lines of MAHC's new appointment scheduling line.  Manning the phones as a Patient Services Clerk, Kelly is part of a small team committed to excellent customer service and better coordination of outpatient appointments.  She is also responsible for inputting the various requisitions into the system so that a patient's registration process is faster on appointment day.  Kelly has been a huge support to her colleagues by developing the manual to guide them through their new work processes.  She recently bought her first house and loves time spent with family and her two dogs.
