Michael Walters

Michael Walters is a self-employed Mental Health Consultant working in the Ontario Mental Health and Addictions sector. He is a highly skilled, results-oriented leader who has developed high impact and effective teams throughout his career in the social service community as well as in public sector. Michael has a steadfast commitment to the promotion of diversity, inclusion, integrity and ethical behaviour in social service and business workplaces. 

Recently, Michael has worked as the Executive Director of an Addiction and Mental Health Treatment agency in Georgian Bay and Southwestern Ontario; Executive Director of Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Grande Prairie, Alberta and as Director of Operations at CMHA Elgin, St Thomas, Ontario. Prior to these roles Michael was the Executive Assistant for 15 years to the Assistant Deputy Ministers of Integrated Policy and Planning Division; Community Services and Acute Services Divisions, at the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Prior to his work with the Ministries, Michael worked in the Children's Mental Health sector where he spent 10 years as a Senior Manager and Counsellor at several Ontario Children's Mental Health service providers as well as at Individual and Family focused treatment agencies. Michael has an undergraduate degree in Social Work and is currently working on his Masters of Social Work degree.

Michael first joined the MAHC Board of Directors in June 2015 and served a one year term as a Community Representative on the Strategic Planning Committee. Since his appointment as a Board Director in June 2016, Michael has served on the Strategic Planning Committee, Governance Committee and the Resources & Audit Committee. He is currently a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and the Quality & Patient Safety Committee.
