2015-16 Budget

In fiscal year 2015-16, the mitigation period for the provincial funding formula ended and MAHC felt the full, unmitigated impact of Health System Funding Reform model.  In an effort to look for savings opportunities that maintain existing services and help the organization achieve a balanced budget, a detailed assessment of our bed utilization was completed internally.

It was determined that changes were required within the regional Complex Continuing Care Unit, housed at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Site.  Based on lower utilization rates in Complex Continuing Care across the region and at MAHC, a decision was made to maintain 16 Complex Continuing Care beds, a reduction of 8 from the 24 beds. The change was implemented in the fall of 2015.

The assessment also justified no changes to the 43 acute care beds at the SMMH Site.  At the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital Site, MAHC formally recognized a total of 37 acute care beds in operation, up from the previous 32 beds.
